Welcome to the Grizzly Bear Habitat Supply Modelling web site. We are part of a group to provide information on "Habitat Supply" for wildlife hosted by the Habitat Supply Research Network.
This site is dedicated to informing our partners and the
public on the status
of our BC Forest Science Program
research project: "Development of
analytic and decision models for assessing grizzly bear needs from forest management
objectives". The project’s broad goal is to provide
generalized, analytic and decision-making models to assess
spatial-temporal habitat supply and mortality risk to grizzly
bears from scenarios involving forest management plans. These
tools will appeal to planners and managers that need to assess
tradeoffs between objectives for grizzly bear management and
timber production at tactical and operational levels. They will
also be of interest to local and international organizations
concerned with grizzly bear conservation.
We hosted a workshop March 9-10, 2005 in Cranbrook to discuss our modelling approaches with our partners, visiting scientists, and managers concerned with grizzly bear ecology and conservation. Details can be found here: Cranbrook Workshop
